This year two KDS DAR High School students’ patriotic expressions were honored by VFW Post 6837 of Boaz, Alabama, with senior William Ellis being awarded 1st place and Annie Hunt receiving 2nd place.
Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy program has stood as the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ premier scholarship initiative, engaging nearly 80,000 high school students nationwide each year. This year’s essay theme, “Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision?” inspired powerful student reflections.
KDS DAR High School history teacher Dr. Glenda Baker was selected as the VFW Teacher of the Year at both the Post and District levels. Her dedication to teaching patriotism, civic responsibility, and American values exemplifies the spirit of this award.

And KDS DAR kindergarten teacher Ashley Downs was recognized with the National Citizenship Education Teacher Post Recognition Award.

Congratulations to Camden, Annie, Dr. Baker, and Mrs. Downs for these achievements!
