Constructed in 1937, Samsa Administration Building was at the time named Munson Cottage for Marion Munson of Connecticut. The Cottage was for many years the residence of the school’s Executive Secretary (what is today known as the Executive Director). It was converted to use as the Executive Director’s office in 2002. A fire destroyed the building in 2005. It was then rebuilt and rededicated in 2007 as the Samsa-Munson Administration Building.

Visitors to the KDS campus who have scheduled a campus tour with our Development Director should come by the administration office first. This office is also home to the KDS Store where you can purchase a variety of KDS merchandise. We look forward to your visit!

Heather Watson Green joined the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School administrative staff as executive director in September of 2008. Heather, a 1992 KDS alumnus, is the daughter of Rick and Donna Keller Watson of Grant, both of whom are KDS graduates.

Heather received a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations from Auburn University in 1996.  After graduating from Auburn, she returned to Marshall County and took a position with the Lake Guntersville Chamber of Commerce. Heather then moved to Huntsville where she gained experience in marketing, communications, public relations and fundraising and worked for organizations such as United Cerebral Palsy, the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association, the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the North Alabama Science Center.

For her work in the fields of public relations and marketing, Heather has received two Medallion Awards from the Public Relations Council of Alabama, one for best promotional brochure and the other for best total public relations program.

Heather is Secretary/Treasurer of the Grant Chamber of Commerce and is a graduate of the Marshall County Leadership Challenge program.  She is currently serving as Corresponding Secretary of the Gunter Mountain Chapter, NSDAR, and is Alabama State Chair for the Insignia Committee.

Heather has been married to Eric, an electrical engineer she met while they both were attending Auburn, for more than 25 years.  They have one son, Aiden, a 22-year-old software engineer, who is a 2020 graduate of KDS.
