KDS High School juniors Addie Walker and Leecia Jackson traveled to Jefferson State Community College on Friday, February 17 to participate in the Alabama Junior Chefs Competitive Event, where their Veggie Quesadillas with Creamy Chili Lime Sauce earned first place honors.
Addie and Leecia began practicing their dish in December, making it at least 8 times before perfecting it. As a part of the competition, the recipes were required to use Alabama grown products and USDA Commodities.
As the contest winners, Addie and Leecia have each been awarded full scholarships to the culinary arts program at Jefferson State, and they also qualified to compete in the Regional Junior Chefs Competition at Sullivan University in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 11 and 12, 2023.
