Students in Ms. Adkins’s science classes at KDS DAR Middle School recently traded standard textbook lessons for lab safety goggles and test tubes, stepping into the roles of real-world molecular biologists. Through a hands-on DNA extraction experiment, the middle schoolers explored the fundamental building blocks of life firsthand. Rather than simply reading about genetic structures, students actively executed a real lab procedure to isolate and extract real, visible DNA strands from living organisms.
Engaging experiences like this do more than just fulfill curriculum standards—they foster genuine curiosity and a deeper appreciation for how the natural world works. By transforming complex biological principles into an exciting, hands-on investigation, KDS DAR Middle School continues to encourage its students to think critically, ask big questions, and envision future possibilities in STEM fields.
