KDS Students Receive Awards and Scholarships at ASDAR State Conference

KDS students were big winners during the Alabama Society DAR State Conference at the end of February.
Two DAR Middle School students were state winners for the 2025-2026 DAR American History Essay Contest. This year's essay title was "Lunch with a Signer". The prompt: America will celebrate her 250th birthday on July 4, 2026! If you could go back in time and meet one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence for lunch, who would you choose? How did their actions and service contribute to our Country becoming independent?

Butler Conwell is the sixth grade state winner. He is an athlete playing three sports: football, basketball, and baseball. He is also the Chaplain of the Gunter Mountain Society, C.A.R. and a member of the Junior American Citizens Club. He is a fourth-generation student at KDS. Congratulations, Butler!

Abe McCoy is the seventh grade state winner. He is both a scholar and an athlete. He is on the A Honor Roll, plays football, basketball, and tennis. Abe also enjoys music and the performing arts. He is a also a fourth-generation student at KDS. Congratulations, Abe!

Gabriel Allen is the winner of an ASDAR Scholarship. He is a senior at KDS DAR High School where he ranks 8th in his class with a 4.27 GPA and an ACT score of 30, including a perfect score of 36 in reading. A member of the National Honor Society, Gabe is recognized for exceptional academic performance, leadership, and service to others. He is a founding member of the the FTC Robotics Team and FLC Robotics Team, dedicating significant time to mentoring younger students through STEM and robotics camps. Gabe is also a standout participant in Scholars Bowl, earning the MVP Award for four consecutive years. In addition, he is a gifted musician and leader in the KDS Marching, Concert, and Jazz Bands, serving as Front Ensemble Section Leader. He will attend Auburn University in the fall to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. Congratulations, Gabe!
Each of these students was recognized during the Education and Awards Luncheon at the 128th Alabama Society DAR State Conference in Auburn. We are so proud of these students and their accomplishments.
