KDS Middle School Science Class Receives TVA Grant

KDS Teacher Jonah Miller is bringing the future of farming into his 7th and 8th-grade science classroom. Thanks to a $3,500 grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc. (BVI), KDS is launching an innovative new biotechnology program.

Nearly 100 students will dive into the world of agricultural science, exploring the differences between natural and artificial selection - technologies used every day on farms across North Alabama. To kick off the unit, students will perform a hands-on DNA extraction from strawberries. "Students can visualize DNA in its real form," Miller shared.

We are so proud of Mr. Miller’s dedication to brightening the minds of our KDS Middle Schoolers!
