KDS DAR School had the privilege of participating in the 134th Continental Congress of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Washington, D.C., from June 23 to June 30. KDS Executive Director Heather Green, Development Director Jason Hodges, Board Chair Melvina Phillips, KDS Alumna Kenley Owens, and student representatives Avery Martin and Abram Stewart experienced an exciting and enjoyable week, connecting with Daughters from all over the nation to share the KDS story.

Avery and Abram had the opportunity to discuss KDS at the Education Luncheon on Friday, while Heather provided an update on the recent developments at KDS, including the plans for the new DAR Elementary School. KDS was one of the five DAR Approved Schools highlighted during the Continental Congress.

Besides their daily duties at the school’s booth, the group enjoyed participating in various events such as the Opening Night Ceremonies, the Alabama-Mississippi “Southern Sunrise” Breakfast, the Illinois Supper, the Pennsylvania Dazzling Daisy Tea, the California Tea, the Units Overseas Luncheon, the Michigan Brunch, the Education Luncheon, and the Junior Membership Luncheon.

The KDS student representatives also found time to explore various national monuments and museums, such as the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the Museum of African American History and Culture, the Museum of American History, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
