KDS Celebrates 102nd Dedication Day
KDS was delighted to host more than 150 guests on October 5–6 for the 102nd Dedication Day celebration on Gunter Mountain. Among the honored attendees were DAR School Committee Chair Anna B. Choi and Alabama Society DAR State Regent Malinda Williams.
Guests received a spirited welcome Thursday morning from students waving signs and offering artwork, accompanied by lively performances from the KDS Marching Band and cheerleaders. To open the event, the KDS 6th Grade J.A.C. Club delivered a thoughtful presentation commemorating the 140th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.
The afternoon brought a memorable dedication at the Michigan Center as State Regent Dawn Brady and Michigan Daughters celebrated 100 years of shared history, service, and love with Kate Duncan Smith DAR School. Among their thoughtful centennial gifts were more than 2,000 tulip bulbs. Planting the first few in front of the Michigan Center served as a touching reminder that care shown today yields beauty for years to come.
Guests spent Thursday exploring campus with tours, classroom visits, and guest reading sessions with elementary students, followed by a Dutch dinner that evening at Top o' the River in Guntersville.
Friday’s Dedication Day Program was the highlight of the event, featuring participation from 24 state societies, groups, and organizations. National DAR School Committee Chair Anna Choi delivered the inspiring Dedication Day Message.
Attendees enjoyed patriotic and heartfelt musical performances by the Fourth Grade Choir "We the People: A Patriotic Tribute", the High School Choir, and the First Graders singing "DAR, Oh How We Love You".
The celebration wrapped up with the Famous Basket Luncheon. A sincere 'thank you' goes to all who prepared and served food for our honored guests. The 102nd Dedication Day was a memorable success for the students and community of our "Gem of Gunter Mountain."
