Beautiful fall weather greeted more than 250 DAR guests from across the country who visited KDS DAR School on October 1-3 for the 101st Dedication Day celebration. It was wonderful to host NSDAR President General Ginnie Storage, National School Chair Anna Choi, Alabama Society DAR State Regent Malinda Williams, and DAR members and guests who traveled to Gunter Mountain to share in this special occasion.
As the ladies arrived on Thursday morning, they were greeted with a warm “welcome to campus.” Students lined the sidewalks, waving signs and offering flowers and artwork, while the KDS Marching Band and cheerleaders delivered energetic music and school spirit. During orientation, entertainment was provided by the 6th Grade J.A.C. Club, who performed a program celebrating America's 250th anniversary.

Later that day, a special dedication ceremony took place at the Nan Roberts Lane Chapel to mark the completion of the extensive renovation of the chapel's two restrooms and the addition of a new outdoor garden space. These projects were made possible by a generous donation from Elouise Click Junkins, a KDS graduate from 1963.

After a Board of Trustees meeting held in Lane Chapel, a dedication ceremony took place at the Michigan Center Arts & Crafts Building to celebrate the completion of extensive renovations funded by the DAR of Michigan, led by State Regent Dawn Brady.

Throughout the day on Thursday, guests were invited to join campus tours, visit classrooms, and read to elementary students. Many brought along their favorite book about the American Revolution to donate to the school's libraries in honor of America250! On Thursday evening, the group enjoyed a Dutch dinner at Top o' the River in Guntersville.
The traditional Dedication Program on Friday is always the highlight of the festivities, and this year was no exception, with 24 state societies, groups, and organizations participating in the dedication. The President General conveyed greetings on behalf of the National Society and delivered the Dedication Day message stressing the significance of the our Nation's Semiquincentennial Celebration. The program also included musical performances by the Fourth Grade Choir with their program titled “The Heart of America”; the High School Choir; and all KDS students, led by First Grade students, singing “DAR, Oh How We Love You,” which received an enthusiastic response. The program was followed by the famous Basket Luncheon.
This year's KDS Dedication Day also featured the annual Craft Show, taking place in the Doris Pike White Gymnasium. More than 30 crafters showcased their handmade products. The funds raised from the Craft Show support the purchase of supplies and materials for the KDS High School Art Department.
The 101st KDS DAR School Dedication Day was a particularly memorable occasion for our “Gem of Gunter Mountain” and its students.
