Digital Media Students Get Hands-On Experience

Braden Owens, Kennedy Aultman and Hannah Hastings do research for the Marshall County Sports Hall of Fame induction videos.

KDS DAR High School Digital Media students are working with the Marshall County Sports Hall of Fame in producing videos featuring their 2023 inductees. The advanced A/V class, taught by John Finley, will work to put together videos for those being honored at the ceremony later this year.

While the class is given scripts and material about each candidate to incorporate in the videos, Dr. Finley said he has found it is a pleasant surprise for the inductees when additional research is done to gather old photos or newspaper articles that they might not have even known existed. This also gives the students hands-on experience with primary research.

In return for making the videos, the Hall of Fame made a contribution to the department to help with equipment costs.

The students visited the Marshall County Archives in Guntersville, Alabama to research information for the videos.

Ana Gonzales and Emily Davis look through a volume of bound newspapers for their research.
