DAR of Michigan Donates More Than 2,000 Tulip Bulbs to KDS

On Thursday, October 15, 2026, State Regent Dawn Brady led Michigan Daughters in celebrating a remarkable milestone at Kate Duncan Smith DAR School: a century of partnership, service, and shared love commemorated under the themes “For the Love of DAR” and “For the Love of KDS.”
Reflecting on the past 100 years, the celebration highlighted an enduring legacy of practical contributions to help the campus thrive. These began with a garage and storage space built in 1951, followed by covered passageways added in 1953 to connect the main building to the Helen Pouch Luncheon Building. In 1955, the Michigan Arts and Crafts building—now known as the Michigan Center—was constructed. It served as the setting for the centennial gathering, having been renovated by DAR of Michigan last year.
To honor this historic milestone and invest in the next generation, Michigan Daughters introduced meaningful centennial gifts, including more than 2,000 tulip bulbs bringing a touch of Michigan's iconic Tulip Time heritage to Alabama (with several planted directly at the Michigan Center to symbolize how care today yields beauty tomorrow) alongside the new $1,000 Century of Love Scholarship to help a student take their next step toward the future.
